Puglia is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. With its breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and delectable cuisine, this enchanting region promises an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re exploring historic towns, or indulging in local delicacies, Puglia offers a slice of Italy that is truly unique.
Since our first journey to the enchanting region of Puglia, The Travel Club has uncovered even more hidden gems in this sun-drenched southern province. Join us as we delve into "the real Italy," revealing the art, culture, traditions, and cuisine of Puglia. Our base for this adventure will be the charming hilltop town of Ostuni, known as the White City, famous for its striking white buildings and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the Adriatic Sea. The historic center features a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets lined with shops and restaurants, perfect for exploration. Our excursions will include a visit to elegant Lecce, an "open-air exhibition" of Baroque architecture, where we'll enjoy lunch and experience a Tarantola performance. We will also explore the seaside town of Otranto, home to the impressive Aragonese castle. Discover the unique charm of Alberobello, renowned for its trulli—traditional stone huts with conical roofs and a UNESCO World Heritage site that feels like stepping into a fairytale. We’ll visit the vibrant port city of Bari and the stunning coastal town of Polignano a Mare, celebrated for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters. One morning will be spent at Masseria Seppunisi, a historic farmhouse showcasing traditional architecture with stone walls and a rustic aesthetic nestled among agricultural land. Here, you’ll meet the dairy herd, explore the dairy and cellars, and watch a demonstration on mozzarella and burrata production, with an opportunity to craft your own cheese, followed by a tasting of the farm’s cheeses, focaccia, cured meats, and a glass of local wine. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the delightful farmhouse Masseria Casina Vitale for a cooking lesson, culminating in a delicious dinner. We’ll conclude this incredible journey with a visit to Matera, a unique and historic city famous for its ancient cave dwellings known as "Sassi." As one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, it has proudly earned its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
